Varla Jean Merman: The Errors Tour
ART R EVENTS WELCOMES VARLA JEAN MERMAN!
Faster than you can say “Ticketmaster site crash,” Varla Jean has swiftly tailored The Errors Tour for her fans, The Mermies. Everyone’s favorite ditzy diva takes you through her catalogue of hilarious hits and egregious errors in a show jam-packed with classic bits, giant wigs, over-taxed costumes, and new songs. This tour-de-farce is certain to be an unforgivable, er…unforgettable evening of “Varla’s Version”of entertainment.
VARLA JEAN MERMAN (aka Jeffery Roberson) starred in the musical Lucky Guy opposite Leslie Jordan in New York at the Little Shubert Theatre, prompting The New York Times to rave, “If Carol Burnett and Harvey Korman had stood in front of the right pair of funhouse mirrors, they might have resembled Ms. Merman and Mr. Jordan in stature as well as comedic talent.” Jeffery has starred in the films Hush Up, Sweet Charlotte, Girls Will Be Girls, Varla Jean and the Mushroomheads, and most recently, Big Easy Queens. Jeffery played the role of Mary Sunshine on Broadway in the revival of Chicago and in the First National Touring Company. In 2010, he won Boston’s Elliot Norton Award for Best Musical Performance in Phantom of the Oprah.
His 27 one-woman shows have sold out cabaret venues across the globe, as well as filling international concert halls including the Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall.

Pride Prayers & Blessing of the Parade
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 166 High Street, will be offering inclusive and affirming prayers and a Parade blessing on May 31st at 10:30am before heading across the street to the Bartlet Mall to begin the Pride Parade. All are welcome and invited to begin the day in reflection, thanksgiving, and healing as we rejoice in God’s love of the LGBTQ+ community and embrace of all people. This brief prayer service will last about twenty minutes and give everyone plenty of time to prepare for the Parade.

Pride Festival
Following the Parade from 1p - 4p, join us in Brown Square in Downtown Newburyport for the 2nd Annual Pride Festival, featuring vendors, food trucks, entertainment, nonprofit booths, kids’ activities and tons of folks to mingle with!
Who should attend the Festival? Members of the LGBTQIA+ community, friends and allies. Adults, kids, seniors, friends and families, in short, the Newburyport Pride Festival is for everyone, and everyone is welcome! There will be activities for kids, a teens area and at the end of the Festival (from 3:15 - 4p), we’ll quiet the music and dim the lights for a “sensory-aware” time.
This is a smoke-free and alcohol-free event that is FREE and open to the public!
Celebrate joy and community at the Festival — we can’t wait to see you there!
